The National Media Commission (NMC) exist to ensure that there is promotion of free, independent and responsible media.

The National Media Commission (NMC) exist to ensure that there is promotion of free, independent and responsible media so as to sustain democracy with a media that is independent from other organs of state.

In order to promote these goals, NMC is committed to maintain its independence from political influence. It shall ensure that the state owned media is independent from government control. It shall raise professional standards among media practitoners and ensure fairness to the public. It shall protect journalists from harassment and penalties arising out of their editorial opinions or content.

 

The 1992 Constitution emphasizes freedom and independence of the media. It contains several articles (from 162-173) that refer to this matter and on which the NMC functions and operates. NMC was founded in 1993.

Newspaper Registration, Complaints Settlement process as an alternative dispute resolution to Court Processes, Media Monitoring and Professional Standards Assessment, Media Training, Election Reporting and Coverage Monitoring, etc.

 

Locate the National Media Commission (NMC) in Accra at the former National Communications Authority building at First Rangoon Close, just behind Christ the King Parish. Alternatively, it is on the lane opposite Flair Catering (Fire Service - Switchback Road).
